Picasso, "Girl in a Chemise"

I stopped by the Tate Modern last night to see the earthquake in Turbine Hall. The crack runs the whole length of the cavernous room. Walk up and let your toes dangle over the edge and your imagination dive in. The wound is deeper than it looks and you fall a long time in the blackness. Straddle the chasm and you're in an action movie, with a split second to decide which direction to throw your weight and no way of knowing where the ground will yawn open next. The sound of broken earth and falling rock echoes through your head.

I sauntered back along the less populated, uncracked side of the floor and climbed the wooden stairs to the fifth floor. Picasso's Girl in a Chemise is stunning. This photo does not do it justice. The curve and shadow of her cheek are perfect and the haughty yet sad look in her eye is so real.
