Dear Becci
PURE MATHEMATICS
On 1 November 2007 the UK's Foreign & Commonwealth Office will introduce the Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS). ATAS will make it compulsory for all non-EEA or Swiss nationals studying postgraduate courses in scientific and technical subjects to apply for security clearance before they apply for entry clearance (a visa) to enter the UK as a student. Students who are already in the UK and need to extend their stay in order to study one of the specified courses will also need to obtain clearance before applying to the Home Office for further leave to remain (a visa extension).
ATAS clearance applications are free are made online. Once clearance has been granted you will receive an ATAS certificate which you need to include with your further leave to remain application.
You can find further information about ATAS and a link to the online application form at www.fco.gov.uk/atas
If you have any queries about your course in relation to ATAS, please contact us. If you have any other queries or require assistance in making your ATAS application please contact the Welfare & Advice Service by emailing welfare@kcl.ac.uk The Welfare & Advice Service is also able to provide advice and information about making an application for entry clearance or extension of stay in the UK.
Yours sincerely
