London stretches, yawns and drags itself from its Christmas slumber

The sleepy enchantment of Christmas continued to hold sway today over England's capital city. The tube reopened and buses were running, but the roads remained so empty that one could saunter across without worry where one usually has to dart between onslaughts of heavy traffic. Some shops and restaurants were open, but many remained shuttered and dark. Though more pedestrians populated the sidewalks than yesterday, the usual impenetrable crowds have yet to emerge.
